Guwahati: As part of the ongoing campaign, ‘War on Drugs’, brown sugar has been seized and arrested one person in an operation led by the transport department in Guwahati on Tuesday.
According to reports, a consignment of brown sugar was found and seized during a transport department investigation close to the ISBT bus terminal in Guwahati.
According to officials, the drugs cargo was taken from a truck with the registration number AS 01 GC 9536.
Officials claim that when the truck was stopped during a regular search operation that resulted in the recovery of the brown sugar, it was travelling along the Jorabat-ISBT route.
A total of 16.85 kg of brown sugar were confiscated. The total value of the seizure was estimated to be over Rs 16.85 crores, with 1 kilogramme of brown sugar being worth Rs 1 crore, based on values in the international smuggling markets.
Meanwhile, one person has been detained during the operation in connection with the matter.
Officials identified the person as Sahidur Rahman.
During interrogation, Rahman revealed that he was transporting the consignment on behest of Ajak Khan, a resident of Jorabat, officials further informed.
