BSF and Police Seize Contraband Worth Over Rs 11 Lakh, Drug Bust in Tripura

Northeast Desk, 26th August: In a series of coordinated operations, the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police in Tripura have successfully seized contraband items worth Rs 11,75,500 along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The operation resulted in the interception of a Bolero pickup truck loaded with garlic and betel nuts. Subsequent investigations and additional operations led to the seizure of a significant quantity of sugar, sarees, and other contraband goods.

On August 11, Tripura police made a notable breakthrough in their anti-narcotics efforts. Acting on specific intelligence, the Ambassa Police Station set up an ambush in Chamalcharra, Dhalai District, and intercepted a Bolero vehicle (TR01F2938) traveling from Manu to Agartala. After a prolonged chase, authorities discovered 80,000 Yaba tablets and 539 grams of brown sugar hidden within the vehicle’s door panel and backlight. The drugs, valued at approximately Rs 2.5 crore on the international market, were seized as part of the Nasha Mukt Tripura Abhiyan, initiated by Chief Minister Manik Saha. One individual has been arrested, and a case has been filed under the NDPS Act. The investigation is ongoing, according to Dhalai District Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai.
