BSF Foils Major Smuggling Attempt Along India-Bangladesh Border in Meghalaya

Shillong: The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel successfully foiled a major smuggling attempt, seizing contraband worth Rs 21 lakhs near the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya on Monday.

Acting on intelligence inputs, officers from the BSF’s 22nd Battalion carried out the operation, intercepting miscellaneous items that were allegedly being smuggled into Bangladesh.

The seizure took place in a remote area of South West Garo Hills district, a region known for frequent cross-border smuggling activities.

The incident underscores the challenges of policing the porous India-Bangladesh border, where illegal trade remains a persistent issue. Authorities have intensified surveillance and patrolling in identified smuggling hotspots, with the latest operation marking another success in BSF’s ongoing anti-smuggling efforts in the Northeast.
