BSF Intensifies Anti-Smuggling Drive in Meghalaya, Seizes Contraband Worth Rs 6.11 Lakh
Shillong: The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya has ramped up its anti-smuggling operations, leading to the seizure of contraband worth Rs 6.11 lakh in East Jaintia Hills (EJH) and South Garo Hills (SGH) districts on December 18.
The seized items comprised a mix of liquor, blankets, garlic, sugar, and various food products that were allegedly being smuggled into Bangladesh.
Prior to this, on December 14, BSF troops apprehended a Bangladeshi national near Anjali Petrol Pump in Shillong, acting on specific intelligence.
The individual, identified as Munna Islam (20) from Kashpur, Senapara in Bangladesh, was apprehended for attempting illegal entry into India.
In other operations conducted in Baghmara (SGH) and Dawki (East Khasi Hills), BSF Meghalaya successfully thwarted another smuggling attempt, seizing contraband worth Rs 3.74 lakh.
The seized items included fish, vacuum flasks, blankets, garlic, biri, and other edible items intended for illegal cross-border trade.
All seized goods have been handed over to customs officials for further investigation and legal proceedings.
