BSF jawan injured in cattle smugglers’ attack along India-Bangladesh border in Assam
Guwahati: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was injured in an attack by a group of cattle smugglers along the India-Bangladesh border in Assam’s South Salmara-Mankachar district on Tuesday.
The injured jawan identified Dinesh Chandra Yadav of 45th Battalion BSF.
The incident took place at the border bridge over the Kalo River near Sahapara BSF camp area of Mankachar.
According to reports, Yadav was on patrolling duty at the bridge when he saw a group of smugglers from the Indian side arriving at the border with five animals. At the same time, another group of 20-25 Bangladeshis came at the border under the pretence of cutting grass.
As a result, the BSF jawan confronted the smugglers as he crossed the Sahapara Kalo River Bridge into Bangladesh, taking advantage of the prevailing weather circumstances.
However, he was overpowered by the livestock smugglers and stabbed in multiple places.
Reportedly, smugglers attempted to drown him by dragging him towards the Kalo River.
The soldier was rescued and rushed to Mankachar Public Health Centre for treatment.
Meanwhile, the soldier is no longer in danger but preparations are underway to transport him to Tura in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills area for further treatment.
It needs to be mentioned that even at a time when Assam battles a raging flood across the state, the illicit export of livestock to Bangladesh remains unabated.
