BSF Meghalaya Distributes Sports Equipment, Nabs Six Illegal Migrants at Indo-Bangladesh Border
Shillong– In a bid to strengthen ties with border communities, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya’s 172nd Battalion distributed sports equipment and essential supplies to villagers along the Indo-Bangladesh border as part of its Civic Action Programme.
The initiative, held at Borsara Playground, benefitted over 300 residents from the villages of Kuliang, Borsara, Laijouri, Baskona, Huroi, and Hangaria in East Jaintia Hills.
The BSF provided footballs, volleyballs, cricket kits, nets, inverters, batteries, and solar street lights worth over ₹3.5 lakh, aiming to enhance sports engagement and improve living conditions in these remote villages. Speaking at the event, 2IC Rajesh Kumar Karwasara reaffirmed the BSF’s commitment to the welfare of border communities, highlighting its role not only in securing the nation but also in supporting local development.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation, BSF Meghalaya foiled an illegal border crossing, resulting in the apprehension of six Bangladeshi nationals in East Jaintia Hills. Acting on intelligence inputs, BSF personnel from the 172nd Battalion detected suspicious movements and launched a search operation in the border region.
The detained individuals, who had been working as domestic helpers in Bangalore, were caught while attempting to return to Bangladesh through unauthorised routes. As per standard procedure, they were handed over to local authorities for further legal action.
With continued vigilance at the border and proactive community initiatives, the BSF remains steadfast in its mission to ensure security while fostering goodwill and development in Meghalaya’s border regions.
