BSF Meghalaya Foils Smuggling Bid, Seizes Contraband Worth ₹10.60 Lakh
Shillong: The Border Security Force (BSF) of Meghalaya successfully intercepted a smuggling operation, seizing contraband items worth ₹10.60 lakh intended for illegal transport into Bangladesh.
Acting on specific intelligence, BSF personnel conducted operations along the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills districts on Thursday.
During the operation, BSF troops spotted unidentified individuals carrying head loads toward the border.However, the suspects managed to flee into nearby forests under the cover of darkness to evade capture.
Upon searching the area, the security forces recovered the concealed contraband, which has been handed over to the Customs Office for further investigation and legal proceedings.
In a separate incident, the BSF apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals attempting to infiltrate into India through the Rattachera area of East Jaintia Hills district.
The individuals were reportedly lured by Bangladeshi touts who charged them 7,000 Bangladeshi Taka each and promised free medical treatment in Kolkata for two of them.
The BSF stated that the group intended to travel to Kolkata after crossing the Indo-Bangladesh border. The arrests underscore the BSF’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities along the international border and maintain security in the region.
