BSF Meghalaya Hands Over Bangladeshi National to BGB

Northeast Desk, 2nd Jan: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya recently announced the handover of a Bangladeshi national to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) who had unintentionally crossed the international border. The incident occurred in the South Garo Hills area on June 10, 2023.

In a statement posted on their official Twitter handle, the BSF Meghalaya mentioned, “As a goodwill gesture, 43 Batallion BSF Meghalaya handed over a Bangladeshi national of unsound mind to Border Guard Bangladesh who inadvertently crossed International boundary and entered Indian territory in the area of South Garo Hills on June 10, 2023.”

This follows a similar occurrence on May 13, where the BSF Meghalaya apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals entering India illegally through the international border. The BSF revealed that the duo had entered the country with the intent of robbery.

Both the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Border Security Force (BSF) play pivotal roles in safeguarding the borders of Bangladesh and India, respectively. With borders spanning over 4,427 kilometers alongside India and Myanmar, the BGB, formerly known as the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of Bangladesh’s international boundaries.

Likewise, the BSF is India’s border-guarding organization, responsible for securing its borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. The peaceful exchange of Bangladeshi nationals between the BSF and BGB underscores the established protocols and understanding between the two forces in handling such border-related incidents.
