BSF Meghalaya Seizes 7 Country-made Boats Loaded with 29,000 KGs of Sugar on Border

National Desk, 15th July: At least seven country-made engine-fitted boats carrying massive amounts of sugar that were intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh over the international border of West Jaintia Hills have been seized by the troops of the 4th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya.

Acting on specific tip-off, the observant BSF troops observed some suspicious boat movement in the Harai River close to BOP Jaliakhola.

The Bangladeshi criminals abandoned their boats in the river after being confronted by BSF, dove into the river, and swam over to Bangladesh.

During the operation, BSF seized seven boats with country-made engine that were carrying approximately 29,000 KG of sugar, valued at more than Rs 11 lakhs.

The items were turned over to the Dawki customs office for further action.
