BSF Reaches Site For Rescue Ops In Mizoram Stone Quarry Mishap
Guwahati: A team from the Border Security Force (BSF) has also been working to free trapped workers following the collapse of a stone quarry in Mizoram’s Hnahthial district on Monday afternoon, according to a BSF statement released on Tuesday.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the state police were already in charge of the rescue effort at the location in Maudarh village of Mizoram’s Hnahthial district on Monday afternoon.
Twelve further workers are still thought to be trapped and eight bodies have so far been retrieved.
According to a statement released here today by the BSF, a significant earthslide followed a quarry blast on Monday at around 2.40 pm in a stone quarry at Maudarh in the Hnahthial region around 35 kilometres from Lunglei.
A BSF rescue team was dispatched as soon as they learned about the collapse of the stone quarry in Maudarh and the Mizoram Police’s subsequent telephonic request for assistance. They arrived as the first response unit.
Meanwhile, eight bodies have been found additionally the national disaster reaction force (NDRF) teams are helping with the efforts to find the remaining missing people.
Four of the twelve feared trapped workers works for ABCI Infrastructure, while eight are employed as contractors.
Teams from the NDRF and the police were already working to rescue the stranded workers. To offer prompt medical aid, the medical personnel have also hurried to the scene.
The district administration reports that an NDRF team consisting of two officers and 13 staff members arrived on the scene on Tuesday morning. The search effort is ongoing.
According to Saizikpuii, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Hnahthial district, after the bodies have been identified, they will be taken for a post-mortem examination.
Saizikpuii earlier informed, “As many as 15-20 labourers are feared trapped after a stone quarry collapsed in Mizoram’s Hnahthial district.”
