BSF seizes Foreign Cigarettes worth Rs 1.7 crore
Silchar: A huge consignment of foreign-made cigarettes amounting to Rs 1.7 crore was seized by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Silchar.
The particular cigarettes were seized near the Manipur border in Assam’s Cachar district.
The BSF further informed that during the incident, four persons were arrested while 43 cartons of cigarettes were confiscated. The consignment was being loaded on a pick-up van from a boat of which the BSF had specific inputs.
The BSF in a press statement said, “The police recovered 43 cartons, each containing 1,000 packets of cigarettes, while another carton had 900 packets. There were 43,900 packets of Gold Flake cigarettes that were made in Turkey. Each packet costs Rs 390. The total value of the consignment is Rs 1,71,21,000.”
One pick-up van and three mobile phones were also seized.
The persons arrested have been named Arshad Hussain of Singerband, Firoz Khan of Cachar, Vivek Kashyap of Chhattisgarh, and Suresh Kumar Sahu of Chhattisgarh.
