BSF Seizes Goods Worth Rs 43 Lakh, Apprehends Five Indian Nationals in Meghalaya
Northeast Desk, 1st October: In a significant operation, the 193rd Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended five Indian nationals and seized vehicles loaded with edible items worth approximately Rs 43 lakh at the Ranikor-Dangar T-junction in East Khasi Hills district. The operation took place as part of the BSF’s ongoing efforts to curb smuggling activities near the India-Bangladesh border.
Acting on specific intelligence, BSF personnel intercepted a truck and a bus traveling from Shillong towards the border area. According to an official release from the BSF, the drivers were unable to provide valid documentation for the vehicles or the goods they were transporting.
The apprehended individuals, along with the vehicles and seized items, have been handed over to the Dangar Police Outpost for further investigation.
This latest seizure highlights the BSF’s vigilance in combating illegal smuggling operations in regions with porous borders, like East Khasi Hills. Earlier, the same battalion intercepted a large consignment of edible items and Nasiruddin Biri (a local cigarette), worth over Rs 13.37 lakh, which was also intended for smuggling across the Bangladesh border.
Such operations are part of broader efforts to clamp down on cross-border illegal trade, ensuring that smuggling activities are met with strict enforcement measures.
