BSF Thwarts Smuggling Attempts Along India-Bangladesh Border in Meghalaya

Shillong: The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully intercepted multiple smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya, seizing contraband valued at approximately Rs 16 lakh. The coordinated operations were conducted by different battalions of the BSF, targeting illegal cross-border activities.

In one of the major busts, troops from the 4th Battalion rescued 27 cattle that were hidden in jungle areas near the border. The animals were believed to be prepared for smuggling into Bangladesh. The BSF handed over the rescued cattle to local authorities at PPP Muktapur for further investigation into the smuggling network.

In another operation, personnel from the 193rd Battalion intercepted a pickup truck carrying undocumented cosmetics in East Khasi Hills district. The vehicle, registered under ML-05-AC, was stopped during routine checks based on intelligence inputs. The confiscation of the cosmetics highlights ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trade of goods across the international boundary.

Additional seizures were made, including food items and liquor from various locations along the border. The BSF stated that these operations were part of a larger strategy to disrupt planned smuggling activities, with information obtained through vigilant intelligence gathering.

The BSF continues to intensify its surveillance and patrolling along the India-Bangladesh border, ensuring tighter security measures to prevent illegal trade. Authorities are investigating the incidents to identify and apprehend those involved in these smuggling networks.
