BSF Thwarts Smuggling Operation at Meghalaya-Bangladesh Border, Seizes Contraband Worth Over Rs 70 Lakh
Northeast Desk, 22nd August: The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya on August 22 successfully intercepted a major smuggling operation near the International Border in East Khasi Hills district. Acting on intelligence, BSF personnel apprehended two Indian nationals from Khanduli in East Jaintia Hills, who were attempting to transport a significant consignment of contraband items.
The contraband, valued at Rs 70,11,960, was being transported in a Mahindra pickup vehicle in the Pongtung area, with the intention of smuggling it across the border into Bangladesh. The BSF’s swift action prevented the illegal shipment from reaching its destination.
The detained individuals and the seized contraband have been handed over to the Customs Office in Pynursla, East Khasi Hills, for further legal proceedings. This operation marks another successful effort by the BSF to curb cross-border smuggling and maintain security along the India-Bangladesh border.
