BSF Thwarts Smuggling Operations on Tripura-Bangladesh Border, Seizes Contraband Worth Lakhs

Agartala: In a series of successful operations, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel intercepted multiple smuggling attempts along the Tripura-Bangladesh border, confiscating contraband worth over Rs 4.1 lakh.

Among the seized items were cattle, marijuana, illicit liquor, and Phensedyl cough syrup, a banned substance in Bangladesh but sought after for its intoxicating effects due to its codeine content.

Earlier this week, a joint operation conducted by the BSF and Tripura Police resulted in the seizure of nearly 20,000 counterfeit sunglasses valued at Rs 32.93 lakh.

The contraband was discovered in a pickup truck near the Border Outpost Pathridwar and is believed to have been destined for illegal transport across the border.

In separate operations, BSF personnel also confiscated sugar, additional quantities of marijuana, Phensedyl bottles, and cattle. The total value of contraband seized in these operations was estimated at Rs 12.91 lakh.

These goods were part of a larger network of smuggling activities aimed at supplying banned items into Bangladesh, highlighting the persistent challenge of cross-border illegal trade.

The BSF’s recent actions underline their commitment to curbing smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh frontier, ensuring the safety and security of border areas. Investigations are ongoing to trace the origins and operators behind these illegal activities.
