BSF Tripura Apprehends Five Bangladeshi Nationals and Indian Tout, Foils Smuggling Attempt
Agartala: The Border Security Force (BSF) in Tripura apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals and an alleged Indian tout on February 14 at Teliamura railway station. The individuals were intercepted while disembarking from the Silchar-Agartala Express and were detained for several hours. Investigations revealed that the Bangladeshi nationals were returning from Bengaluru and had planned to exfiltrate to Bangladesh.
In a separate operation, BSF troops of Border Outpost (BOP) Kullubari in Sepahijala district foiled an attempt to smuggle contraband across the border. A group of miscreants tried to throw a consignment over the border fence, but the alert troops seized two packets containing a large quantity of suspected yaba tablets. The exact quantity and valuation of the seized narcotics are currently under assessment.
Additionally, BSF Tripura conducted multiple operations, confiscating foreign cigarettes and other contraband items worth ₹30 lakh, reinforcing its commitment to tackling transborder smuggling.
The BSF has intensified its operations along the India-Bangladesh border and in the hinterland to curb exfiltration, infiltration, and cross-border crimes. As part of this effort, the BSF Tripura Frontier launched intensified operations on February 1. Since January 26, the force has apprehended 14 Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian touts involved in illegal cross-border activities. In addition, the BSF has seized narcotics, sugar, cattle, and other contraband worth ₹2.5 crore in various independent and joint operations.
