BSF Tripura Frontier Apprehends 1,018 Individuals, Seizes Narcotics Worth Rs 94 Crores

Northeast Desk, 22nd April: The Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier has maintained strict vigilance on the border, resulting in the apprehension of a total of 1,018 individuals attempting illegal border crossings from January 1, 2023, to April 15, 2024. Additionally, narcotics worth Rs 94 crores have been seized during this period.

Addressing a press conference, IG Piyush Patel Purtosottoam Das of the Tripura Frontier BSF reiterated their commitment to maintaining border security and preventing trans-border crimes and smuggling activities.

During the mentioned timeframe, the BSF intercepted 498 Bangladeshi nationals, 396 Indian nationals, and 124 nationals from other countries who were attempting to infiltrate or exfiltrate across the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura.

IG Das highlighted the BSF’s efforts in strengthening border infrastructure, including the installation of a single-row fence (SRF) in previously vulnerable areas. The ongoing SRF work covers 8 gaps, supplemented by smart surveillance systems comprising 503 surveillance cameras to enhance border control.

Furthermore, the BSF has been actively combating illegal migration, particularly from Rohingya migrants and Bangladeshi nationals using Tripura as a corridor to reach various destinations in India. Close coordination with sister agencies has led to the apprehension of individuals involved in illegal migration and the identification of prominent infiltration routes.

In addition to apprehensions, the BSF has seized contraband and other items worth Rs 94 crores, including Yaba tablets, cannabis, Phensedyl/Eskuf, liquor, cattle, gold, and other contraband items.

The BSF’s relentless efforts underscore their commitment to safeguarding the integrity of India’s borders and combating cross-border criminal activities effectively.
