BTC Chief Pramod Boro Appeals for Peace in Manipur, Calls for End to Violence

Guwahati: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) president Pramod Boro has expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence in Manipur, which has claimed countless lives and caused widespread devastation.

Addressing the issue on Wednesday, Boro urged all stakeholders to prioritize humanity and work towards peaceful resolutions.

“In the 21st century, no one should resort to violence,” Boro said. “Violence only leads to destruction, impacting both sides. When one community targets another, it results in mutual harm, perpetuating more problems. We must break this cycle for the sake of future generations.”

Reflecting on global history, Boro highlighted the importance of introspection among those engaging in violence. “Enemies have become allies, and allies have turned into adversaries. Those involved in the violence in Manipur must consider the long-term consequences for their children. If we do not end this violence, the suffering will persist,” he warned.

While acknowledging the government’s efforts to mediate, Boro emphasized the need for cooperation between the Meitei and Kuki communities. “The government is supporting both communities, but without mutual willingness to listen and compromise, progress is impossible. Both sides must take responsibility for their future,” he said, adding that external intervention might become inevitable if the deadlock continues.

Drawing from Bodoland’s own history of conflict in 1996 and 2012, Boro highlighted the lingering scars and the time required to heal. “Bodoland still feels the effects of past conflicts. Only by rejecting violence can true progress be achieved,” he noted.

In a heartfelt appeal, Boro called for an end to the violence in Manipur by the end of 2024. “Let us welcome 2025 with new hopes and dreams, leaving violence behind. Together, we can build a brighter future for our children and our nation,” he concluded.
