Budget 2022: Memes go viral on social media about ‘middle class’

Guwahati: As Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman delivered the Union Budget 2022 on February 1, social media users kept themselves occupied by producing humorous memes that quickly went viral.

The top Twitter trends are #Budget2022 and #IncomeTax, but the internet is having a field day sharing ‘Middle Class’ memes, as the phrase is also at the top of the list.

Nirmala Sitharaman did not announce any new tax rates for the personal income tax category when she presented the Union Budget. It was thought that some minor adjustments to the current income tax system would be made, but no major changes were revealed.

However, to reflect the reaction of the middle class to the Budget, social media users developed amusing memes based on Hindi cinema sequences and quips.

Meanwhile, Nirmala Sitharaman declared that taxpayers will be able to revise their tax filings within two years. She also stated that the tax deduction ceiling for both federal and state government employees will be enhanced from 10% to 14%. This will be done to assist state government employees with their social security benefits and bring them up to par with federal government employees.

Nirmala Sitharaman presented her fourth Budget, which aims to keep India’s status as the world’s fastest-growing economy. The budget is released just days before the first round of voting in Uttar Pradesh which, together with four other states will elect a new state government.

The Indian economy is expected to grow 9.2% in the fiscal year that ends in March, after contracting by 7.3 percent the previous fiscal year.
