Guwahati: Sattriya exponent Basistha Dev Sarma breathed his last at the age of 84 in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Saturday.
The Burha Sattriya of Barpeta Satra, Dev Sarma has been in serious condition for some time. He passed away at 4:56 pm today.
He has recently received intensive care while being closely monitored by medical professionals.
The news will be a significant loss for the Assamese society’s cultural circles.
Dev Sarma’s health suffered as a result of contracting the Covid-19 virus in 2020.
The renowned Sattriya exponent was chosen by the Assam government in 2017 for the Srimanta Sankardev Award, which is given at the national level.
