By Polls: BJP and alliance win all in Assam
Guwahati: In another major political development in the state and a major turn down for the Congress in Assam, Rupjyoti Kurmi and Sushanta Borgohain have won the by-polls in Assam and have retained their seats.
Both the candidates were earlier members of the Congress who had recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party after certain internal issues. Both of them were already elected legislators. While Sushanta Borgohain was the legislator from the Thowra constituency, Rupjyoti Kurmi was the legislator for Mariani.
Both of them while resigning from Congress and joining the BJP had also resigned as MLAs. They defended their respective seats during the by-polls and successfully managed to win.
Apart from this, BJP’s Phanidhar Talukdar also managed to mark his victory.
It may be mentioned that the UPPL’s Jolen Daimary and Jiren Basumatary have also won their respective seats in the election.
