C.H. Vijayashankar Sworn in as Governor of Meghalaya

Northeast Desk, July 30, 2024 C.H. Vijayashankar was sworn in as the new Governor of Meghalaya at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Shillong, on July 30. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice S. Vaidyanathan of the Meghalaya High Court.

The event was attended by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, who later expressed his congratulations on social media. “Attended the swearing-in ceremony of Shri. C.H. Vijayashankar ji, who took oath as Governor of Meghalaya today,” he wrote.

Vijayashankar’s appointment is part of a gubernatorial reshuffle announced by President Droupadi Murmu on July 27, which saw new governors appointed for nine states across India. A veteran politician from Karnataka, Vijayashankar brings extensive legislative experience to his new role, having served in both state and national legislatures over multiple decades.

His leadership is expected to bring significant contributions to Meghalaya, leveraging his political expertise to address the state’s unique challenges and opportunities.
