C H Vijayashankar to Take Oath as Meghalaya’s New Governor Today

Northeast Desk, 30th July: C H Vijayashankar is set to be sworn in as the new Governor of Meghalaya today in a ceremony at Raj Bhavan, Shillong. The oath of office will be administered by Chief Justice S. Vaidyanathan of the Meghalaya High Court at 4:30 pm.

The ceremony will see attendance from prominent figures including Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, cabinet ministers, and senior government officials. Vijayashankar’s appointment follows a recent gubernatorial reshuffle announced by President Droupadi Murmu on July 27, which introduced new governors for nine states across India.

A seasoned politician from Karnataka, Vijayashankar brings a wealth of legislative experience to his new role. His political career, spanning multiple decades, includes service in both state and national legislatures. First elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 1994, Vijayashankar later represented the Mysore constituency in the Lok Sabha for two terms.

At the state level, he held significant cabinet positions in Karnataka, managing portfolios such as forestry and small-scale industries. Additionally, he served a term in the Karnataka Legislative Council from 2010 to 2016.

Vijayashankar’s extensive experience and leadership are expected to bring valuable insights and direction to his governorship in Meghalaya.
