Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet under the chairmanship of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at a press conference held at Silchar which was held for the first time at Barak Valley on Tuesday took several key decisions.

Following the cabinet meet, Chief Minister briefed the media about the resolutions adopted in the meeting:

  1. 10,57,516 beneficiaries will be registered under the Orunodoi plan by March 31, 2022. Currently, 17 lakh persons are registered with Orunodoi. With the new inclusion, there will be 27,77,000 Orunodoi beneficiaries in the state overall. Beginning in January 2022, a new procedure for including Orundoi beneficiaries will be implemented. The cost for Orunodoi will increase to 4,000 cr annually.
  2. The beneficiaries of the Indira Miri Widow Pension Scheme, who previously received a monthly pension of Rs. 250, will now receive Rs. 1,200 after enrolling in the Orunodoi scheme.
  3. Beneficiaries of the Deen Dayal Dibyangan Jan Pension will also be able to use the Orunodoi programme.
  4. A total of 312 revenue-related proposals that had been languishing for some time were granted. A project for the Rampur Bagan LP School had been unfinished for 34 years. Moreover, this proposition was approved today. Numerous initiatives connected to income were also adopted in today’s cabinet.
  5.  Three new flyovers for Guwahati city were approved. This are- near Downtown hospital, at Fatasil and at Kumarpara- Fatashil. Our goal is to make Guwahati traffic-free.
  6. New road from Guwahati Airport terminal to Azara.
  7. A fresh approach to development has been used. Starting on January 5, projects worth Rs. 15,000 crore that have been approved by previous cabinets will be inaugurated.
  8. In regards to the ragging incident at Dibrugarh University, the Chief Minister claimed that the university administration didn’t follow the rules thoroughly enough. The manner Dibrugarh University handled such grave offences has drawn criticism from the Cabinet. The CM declared, “We shall have zero tolerance for ragging in any state-run college or university.”
  9. According to the Chief Minister, neither Assam nor Meghalaya will cross each other’s constitutional borders. He added that the citizens should not be fired by the police. Police should never target people; only criminals and terrorists should be targeted. Now, traffic is flowing regularly. We have a responsibility to protect the public and the government of Meghalaya has a responsibility to do the same. Meghalaya didn’t pull over any cars. The Assam government advised against driving across Meghalaya as a safety precaution.
  10.  The CM stated that Mahasadak would be completed very soon during my presidency.
  11. The Chief Minister expressed his satisfaction at the massive turnout of Barak valley residents who participated actively in the celebration of Bir Lachit Barphukan’s 400th birthday.
  12.   GuruCharan (GC) College to be upgraded to state University.
  13.   Rs59 cr sanctioned for renewed construction of embankment at Bethukandi of Silchar
  14.   Mohisha Beel will soon be declared as a protected area.
  15.   An elevated flyover will be constructed at Ramnagar, Silchar with an overall length of 10 km. However, India Club needs to be demolished for that construction. The CM left this to the will of the people of Silchar. If people oppose the demolition of India Club then the flyover will not be built.
  16.   Another flyover was approved at the sinking place at Silchar- Kalain Road.
  17.   The Chief Minister stated that the concept for a flyover from Capital Point to Rangirkhari is also being discussed. We are debating it, he said, and if everything works out, we’ll reveal it later. He claimed that if there is not enough room for a 4-lane flyover, the government may build a 2-story flyover.
  18.   Rs.135 cr was sanctioned for Mini Secretariat.
  19.  Two new degree model colleges will be constructed at Dholai and Lakhipur (Binnakandi)
  20.  A milk processing unit with Rs.81 cr to be set up at Silchar which will produce 1.5 lakh litre milk every day.
  21.  Rs. 10 cr sanctioned as one time grant for DSA Silchar.
  22.   Another super specialty 200-bed section to be set up at Silchar Medical College & Silchar
  23.   The cabinet approved Rs.650 cr for setting up medical college at Karimganj.
  24.    A new 300-bedded section will be built at the Silchar District Hospital at the expense of RS.146 Cr
  25.  Narsing HS School, DN HS School (Udharbond), Cachar High School will be given Rs.10 cr each.
  26.   Silchar Central jail will be transferred to Lakhipur and the area of the present jail will be converted as a botanical garden.
  27.  Airport Authority has approved the construction of Greenfield Airport at Doloo.

Now the matter has gone for the approval of Ministry of Civil Aviation.
