Cameras Installed in Public Places to Identify Women Not Wearing Hijab

Guwahati: Iranian authorities have started placing cameras in public areas in order to identify women women not wearing hijabs.

According to reports, cameras placed in public areas would detect women who are not wearing hijabs and send a warning text message.

According to authorities, this action has been taken by the government to assist avoid “resistance against the hijab law.”

Protests were done by Mahsa Amini’s death who is a young Kurdish woman who was arrested for allegedly breaking the hijab rule.

Despite an increase in arrests, more and more women have been leaving their veils behind after Amini’s death especially in larger cities.

The so-called “smart” cameras and other instruments were used, to identify and convey “documents and warning messages to the violators of the hijab rule,”reports stated.

Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution imposed a stringent interpretation of religious law, women are purportedly obligated to cover their hair with a hijab (headscarf). Women who will go against the law will have to pay fine or be arrested.
