Guwahati: Gossaigaon police arrested one person in connection with the operation and confiscated enormous amounts of cannabis from a car on Thursday.
The operation, according to accounts, was carried out using precise information. Under the Gossaigaon Police Station in Kokrajhar, Assam, a car was stopped and searched. A sizable amount of cannabis, hidden in the vehicle in 270 packets in all, was found.
The entire haul, according to officials, weighted about 1,483 kg and is estimated to be worth several crores on the international market.
“Based on secret information, the police of Kokrajhar district launched an operation and recovered and seized 270 packets weighting 1483 kg of ganja from a vehicle at Gossaigaon police station area,” said police.
The chewable tobacco packets included the cannabis, officials added, adding that the offender was detained.
The accused in the matter was identified as Ranjit Chowrasia and was arrested by the police.
The car that was impounded also had the registration NL 01 AB 7316 and was purportedly travelling from Guwahati.
Further investigation is underway.
