Carcass Of Leopard Recovered in Assam

Guwahati: A carcass of a leopard was recovered on Monday morning at Maijan tea estate in Dibrugarh district of Assam.

The leopard was reportedly found dead near Maijan tea factory of the district.

The carcass of the leopard was first spotted by the workers of the tea garden while they were plucking tea leaves.

According to reports, a local resident stated that the officials from forest department came and retrieved the carcass of the leopard for postmortem and further claimed that the leopard must have died 2-3 days back.

Leopards frequently visited the areas around the tea gardens in quest of food.

Local also stated that their domestic animals are taken away by the leopard and children’s are afraid to leave the house.

Recently, numerous leopards from our tea estate were trapped, local added.

Man-animal conflict has been recorded frequently recently from various areas of Assam.

Experts say that man-animal conflicts arise because big cats emerge from the forest in search of food and enter human habitats as a result of the shrinking forest cover.
