Cash Seizure: Assam Residents Five Held with Rs 12 Lakh
Guwahati, 5th March: During a routine checkpoint on National Highway 31 near the Raidak Bridge in West Bengal, Cooch Bihar Police intercepted a car from Assam and discovered Rs 12 lakh in cash concealed inside. The authorities promptly arrested all five occupants of the vehicle, residents of Dhubri in Assam, after their statements raised suspicions.
The incident unfolded yesterday around 5:30 pm when the white car, traveling from Assam, drew attention during questioning due to contradictory statements provided by the occupants. Upon conducting a thorough search, a significant amount of cash amounting to approximately Rs 12 lakh was found concealed inside a bag in the car’s trunk.
The police seized the money and took all five individuals into custody. Subsequently, the Cooch Behar Police notified the Income Tax department about the cash seizure, hinting at a potential investigation into the source and purpose of the funds.
