CBI Chargesheets Woman for Fraudulent Online Trading Scheme in Assam

Guwahati: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken a significant step in its investigation into a fraudulent online trading scheme in Assam.

On Monday, the agency filed a chargesheet against Monalisa Das, a representative of DB Stock Consultancy, before the Special Judge for CBI cases in Chandmari, Guwahati.

Das stands accused of defrauding numerous investors through unregulated deposit schemes. The chargesheet, filed under the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act, 2019, and the Indian Penal Code, alleges that the accused collected substantial amounts of money from unsuspecting individuals, promising lucrative returns.

The CBI’s investigation revealed that since 2018, Das had been operating the fraudulent scheme, providing investors with forged documents on Rs 100 stamp paper as proof of their investments. However, as time passed, the promised returns dwindled, leaving many investors in financial distress.

Following a recommendation from the Assam government, the CBI initiated its investigation in late October. Das, who was arrested by Assam Police on August 22, remains in judicial custody.
