Central Government Approves Rs 40 Crore Relief for Flood-Hit Tripura

Northeast Desk, 23rd August: The central government has sanctioned an advance release of Rs 40 crore to assist the flood-affected regions of Tripura, which have been struggling with severe flooding since August 19. The catastrophic floods, triggered by heavy rainfall, have displaced over 60,000 people and resulted in at least 20 fatalities. More than 400 relief camps have been established to provide shelter and aid to those affected.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the relief package on Friday, stating, “In response to the severe flood situation in Tripura, and under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government has approved an advance release of Rs 40 crore from the SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) to support relief efforts.” Shah highlighted the deployment of 11 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, three Army columns, and four Air Force helicopters to bolster ongoing rescue and relief operations.

Reassuring the people of Tripura, Shah affirmed that the Modi government is committed to standing “shoulder-to-shoulder” with the state during these challenging times.

The situation has started to improve as of Friday morning, with a reduction in rainfall leading to a decrease in water levels of major rivers.
