Central Hilal Committee of Assam Sets Fitrah for Ramadan

Guwahati, 19th March: The Central Hilal Committee of Assam, through President Maulana Sheikh Fakhruddin Ahmed Kasimi and General Secretary Alhaj Imdad Hussain, has determined this year’s Fitrah for Ramadan fasting at 1,633 grams of wheat flour, equivalent to 65.00 rupees.

Purpose of Fitrah:

The committee urges all Muslim residents to contribute this amount before the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers. Fitrah serves as a means for those who fasted during Ramadan to atone for any errors made during the fasting month, thereby purifying their Ramadan fast.

Commencement of Ramadan:

This year, the holy month of Ramadan begins with the first sighting of the crescent Moon on Sunday evening, March 10, 2024. The precise start and end of Ramadan are determined by the first crescent Moon sighting on the last night of the eighth month (Sha’ban).

Observance of Ramadan:

Ramadan commences upon the first sighting of the crescent Moon over Mecca, Saudi Arabia, or on a predetermined date calculated astronomically. Therefore, the start and end dates of Ramadan may vary by a day based on local moon sightings or astronomical calculations.
