Centre Approves ₹1186.20 Crore for Four-Laning of NH-37 to Boost Connectivity in Northeast
Guwahati: In a significant infrastructure push, the central government has approved ₹1186.20 crore for the four-laning of a key 13-km stretch of NH-37, connecting Silchar in Assam to Jiribam in Manipur. The project aims to enhance regional connectivity and strengthen economic integration across Assam, Manipur, and Meghalaya.
The upgraded corridor will provide seamless access to Imphal through the Jiribam-Silchar-Ratacherra-Kalain-Jowai-Shillong route, improving logistical efficiency and cutting down travel time. The initiative is expected to facilitate smoother movement of goods and services, thereby fostering trade and economic growth in the region.
Officials highlight that the project’s greenfield alignment will significantly benefit local communities by improving access to healthcare, education, and markets. Enhanced road infrastructure is also expected to create new employment opportunities and stimulate economic activities, boosting local livelihoods.
Strengthening transport infrastructure in the Northeast has been a key focus of the government’s development agenda. The NH-37 expansion aligns with the broader vision of fostering economic growth, regional connectivity, and ensuring prosperity for the region’s residents.
