Centre Approves Rs 675 Crore Aid for Flood-Hit Gujarat, Manipur, and Tripura

Northeast Desk, 1st October: The central government has sanctioned a relief package of Rs 675 crore to support flood-affected regions in Gujarat, Manipur, and Tripura, utilizing the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and advancing funds from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). The financial assistance comes as these states face the devastating impact of the Southwest Monsoon, which has triggered heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides.

In a breakdown of the relief allocation, Rs 600 crore has been earmarked for Gujarat, Rs 50 crore for Manipur, and Rs 25 crore for Tripura. The funds aim to aid recovery efforts and provide immediate assistance to the affected populations.

An official statement mentioned that Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) will soon visit these states to assess the extent of the damage. In addition, IMCTs are also being deployed to Bihar and West Bengal, which have recently experienced significant flooding.

Several other states, including Assam, Mizoram, and Andhra Pradesh, have also been severely affected by extreme weather conditions this monsoon season. Earlier in the year, the central government allocated Rs 9,044.80 crore from the SDRF to 21 states and Rs 4,528.66 crore from the NDRF to 15 states as part of its broader response to natural disasters.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the government remains committed to ensuring swift and comprehensive disaster response efforts. This includes the deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and military resources to assist the flood-hit regions. Further financial assistance to other impacted states will be determined after reviewing IMCT assessments.
