Centre Approves Rs 300 Crores for Improvement of Assam’s Judicial infrastructure: CM Sarma

Guwahati: Assam would receive about Rs 300 crores as its part of the Rs 9,000 crores that the Central Government has sanctioned for the enhancement of the country’s judicial infrastructure.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said this during the Bar Council of Northeast States’ Diamond Jubilee Celebration on Saturday in Guwahati.

CM Sarma uttered, “Assam will receive about Rs 300 crore as its part of the Rs 9,000 crores the Center has approved for the enhancement of the judicial infrastructure. The state government would also provide an additional Rs 300 crore in this regard.”

He added that the lower judiciary would receive over 100 new positions from the Assam government.

“The Assam government would create about 100 new seats in the lower judiciary as a step towards speedier administration of justice in the state,” he added.

Sarma was the Guest of Honour in the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim at ITA Cultural Complex, Machkhowa in Guwahati.

The state government is considering a number of support programmes for those who decide to stop actively practising medicine, according to the chief minister. He also emphasised the necessity to speed up the system for delivering justice.

The Chief Minister lauded the Indian judiciary has strengthened the nation’s legal and constitutional framework as a result of the many important judgements it has rendered. He said that it has gained recognition on a global scale as a judiciary that strives to develop a progressive jurisprudence.

The Chief Minister exuded assurance that the judicial institutions would always serve as a watchdog of justice and a compass for the biggest functioning democracy in the world.

In addition, Chief Minister Sarma described the court as saving Indian democracy, claiming that important rulings on issues like “fundamental structure,” among other things, prevented the Constitution from losing its original intent.

He praised the Bar Council for its initiatives, including its orientation programmes for attorneys and efforts to digitise records.

The Bar Council received high accolades from the Chief Minister for carrying out its regulatory duties and increasing the bar for conduct in the legal services industry.

Speaking on the country’s legal system’s lengthy and distinguished history, he praised it for serving as a solid basis for democracy in the nation.

He added, “This venerable institution has been a vital catalyst in empowering our citizens to be properly informed about their rights and also upholding them via its pronouncements. Our judiciary has not relegated its powers to dispensing justice alone.”
