Centre Asks Nagaland Govt to Convince NSCN-IM to Ink Final Solution to Naga Pol Issue

Guwahati: The National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) must be persuaded to sign the final agreement to resolve the Naga political crisis, according to a request from the Centre made to the Nagaland Government.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered the message to an 11-member delegation of the Nagaland government’s Core Committee on the Naga political issue, chaired by the chief minister and deputy chief minister Neiphiu Rio, during a meeting on Monday in New Delhi.

This was stated by the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Neiba Kronu.

He stated that the state administration has asked the Centre and NSCN-IM to discuss and resolve the issues of Integration, the Regional Autonomous Territorial Council, use of the Naga flag and Constitution, and other unresolved competencies.

The team submitted the Core Committee’s July 16 resolution and requested Shah to revisit the controversial topics and present a resolution, according to Kronu, who also holds the portfolios for planning and coordination and land revenue.

Additionally, it prompted Shah to strive toward a resolution of the Naga issue ahead of the upcoming election, which is scheduled for early next year, and reminded him of the BJP’s campaign slogan from the 2018 state election, “Election for Solution.”

In order to address the controversial issue as soon as possible and produce a “honourable, accptable and inclusive” final solution, the delegation focused on a clause in the agreement that placed emphasis on the negotiation parties reaching a “mutually accepted definition of competencies.”

The delegation included United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman T R Zeliang, its co-chairman Kuzholuzo Nienu, cabinet ministers G Kaito Aye, S Pangnyu Phom, Neiba Kronu and Tongpang Ozukum, advisors H Khehovi Yeptho and Phukhayi and MLA Khriehu Liezietsu, he said.
