Centre Bans 8 YouTube Channels for Spreading Disinformation

Guwahati: Eight YouTube channels, including one based in Pakistan has been blocked by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Thursday for propagating false information on India’s public order, foreign relations, and national security.

According to the IT Rules, 2021, the Ministry has blacklisted seven YouTube news stations with Indian and one with Pakistani origins.

The prohibited channels had over 114 crore views and 85,73,000 members, according to the data.

It has come to light that the YouTube channels that were blocked were making money off of phoney anti-Indian propaganda.

On April 25, it had already shut 16 YouTube news channels, including 10 from India and 6 from Pakistan, for disseminating false information on India’s security, ties with other countries, and public order.
