Centre Blocks 100 Websites in Crackdown on Economic Crimes and Job Scams
National Desk, 6th December: In a decisive move, the Central Government has blocked 100 websites associated with organised investment related to economic crimes and part-time job scams. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) revealed that these websites, operated by overseas entities, predominantly targeted retired individuals, women, and unemployed youth seeking part-time work.
The action comes in response to the identification and recommendation by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), which flagged these sites for their involvement in organised investment and part-time job frauds.
Reports suggest that the scams utilized targeted digital ads on platforms like Google and Meta, strategically deploying keywords such as ‘Ghar baithe job’ (Work from home) and ‘Ghar baithe kamayi kaise Karen’ (How to earn from home). The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has urged the public to exercise due diligence before engaging in any high-commission-paying online schemes promoted on the internet. The government’s crackdown aims to curb fraudulent activities that exploit vulnerable sections of the population.
