Centre to Hold Fresh Talks with United Naga Council on New Districts in Manipur

Imphal: The Central Government will engage in a fresh round of talks with the United Naga Council (UNC) regarding its demand to roll back the creation of seven new districts in Manipur. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced that the tripartite meeting, involving representatives from the Centre, the Manipur government, and the UNC, is set for November 13 in Senapati.

The upcoming talks come after the previous round of discussions held on October 11. The UNC has been pushing for the reversal of the district reorganization, claiming it has disrupted traditional Naga administrative regions and undermines local autonomy.

The issue has been contentious since the creation of the new districts in 2016, which sparked protests and led to ongoing dialogues over the years.

The talks are expected to play a pivotal role in addressing regional governance issues, with hopes for a resolution that aligns administrative requirements with the interests of local communities.
