Champai Soren Takes Oath as Chief Minister of Jharkhand Amidst Political Uncertainty
National Desk, 2nd February: Champai Soren, a leader from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. The oath-taking ceremony occurred at 12:15 pm in the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan in Ranchi. The appointment comes after Governor CP Radhakrishnan invited Champai Soren, a loyalist of former CM Hemant Soren, to form the government.
Following Hemant Soren’s resignation due to an arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case, Champai Soren has been tasked with proving his majority in a floor test within the next 10 days. The political landscape in the state has been marked by uncertainty since Hemant Soren’s departure.
Amidst the political turmoil, the JMM-led coalition had planned to fly its MLAs to Telangana from Ranchi, but the chartered planes were unable to take off due to poor visibility, leading to a sudden cancellation.
Champai Soren steps into the role of Chief Minister, replacing Hemant Soren, who remains in judicial custody until February 2. The case against Hemant Soren is linked to an alleged “huge racket of illegal change of ownership of land by the mafia” in Jharkhand. As Champai Soren assumes leadership, Jharkhand anticipates a new political era in the state.
