Champai Soren to Join BJP on August 30, Announces Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

National Desk, 27th August: In a significant political development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed that former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 30. Sarma, who is also the BJP’s co-incharge for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections, shared the news on social media, posting a photograph of Soren with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

“Former Jharkhand CM and prominent Adivasi leader, Champai Soren Ji met Hon’ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji. He will formally join BJP on August 30 in Ranchi,” Sarma tweeted, signaling a major shift in Jharkhand’s political landscape.

The move has been anticipated for some time, as Soren had reportedly grown dissatisfied with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leadership. His discontent was further fueled by JMM Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s accusations that the BJP was attempting to poach his party leaders. Champai Soren, who had previously denied rumors of joining the BJP, had also expressed feelings of insult following his abrupt removal, which paved the way for Hemant Soren to assume the Chief Minister’s role.

Soren’s formal induction into the BJP is expected to be a strategic gain for the party, especially in the lead-up to the assembly elections in Jharkhand later this year.
