Champhai, Mizoram: In a significant blow to the illicit drug trade, the Assam Rifles, working hand-in-glove with the Excise and Narcotics Department of Champhai, apprehended two women and seized a substantial cache of Heroin No. 4 from the Zotlang area on the evening of June 20, 2025. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth over Rs 1.2 crore in the grey market.
Acting on precise intelligence gathered, the joint team initiated their operation around 8:00 PM on Friday. Their vigilance paid off swiftly, as at approximately 8:30 PM, two female suspects were intercepted. A meticulous search led to the discovery of 13 ‘hongs’, or packets, containing Heroin No. 4. The total weight of the recovered contraband came in at 161.200 grams, carrying an estimated street value of Rs 1.209 crore.
Both the apprehended individuals and the seized narcotics have since been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further investigative procedures and appropriate legal action.
