Cheating Ring Busted at NVS Exam in Sikkim’s Gangtok: 19 Detained
Gangtok, Sikkim – In a significant crackdown on examination malpractices, police have apprehended 19 individuals for allegedly employing advanced electronic devices to cheat during the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) Non-Teaching Recruitment Examination held on Sunday at Sir Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School.
Seventeen male and two female candidates were caught red-handed at the examination center after being discovered in possession of concealed communication technology intended to facilitate unfair means during the test. These devices were reportedly being used to receive external assistance in answering the examination questions.
Following the discovery, all 17 male candidates have been formally placed under arrest. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against them under the applicable provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, 2000. The two female candidates have also been detained and are currently being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
Initial inquiries have indicated that a significant number of the accused originate from the state of Uttar Pradesh, prompting concerns among law enforcement agencies about the potential involvement of an organized interstate network specializing in facilitating digital cheating in competitive recruitment processes.
“We strongly suspect the involvement of a larger, well-coordinated network that is providing access to these sophisticated cheating tools,” stated a senior police official. “A comprehensive and in-depth investigation has been launched to uncover the full extent of this operation.”
Authorities have confiscated a number of electronic devices from the detained individuals and are currently subjecting them to thorough analysis to gather further evidence and identify additional individuals who may be connected to the cheating scheme. Officials have reiterated their commitment to maintaining the integrity of public recruitment examinations and have assured that strict action will be taken against those who attempt to undermine the fairness of the process.
