Cherian Momin Issues Clarification on People’s College Appointment Controversy

Shillong: Social activist and adviser to the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (COMSO), Cherian Momin, has issued a formal clarification regarding an earlier representation submitted to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, in which concerns were raised over alleged irregularities in the recruitment process for sanctioned teaching posts at People’s College, Mendipathar.

The initial communication had specifically named Sengatchi K. Marak and Miss Chianchi M. Marak as individuals allegedly bypassed during the appointment process. However, following an internal review and input from external sources, Momin acknowledged that the inclusion of the two names was a clerical error and not based on verified documentation.

“The reference to the two individuals was unintentional and not reflective of any verified documentation at the time of submission,” Momin stated, adding that there was no intent to question their professional qualifications or integrity.

Reiterating that the purpose of the representation was to call attention to broader issues of transparency and fairness in public recruitment, Momin emphasized that the goal was institutional reform—not personal defamation.

“I sincerely regret any unintended discomfort caused by the mention of Sengatchi K. Marak and Miss Chianchi M. Marak,” Momin said. “Our commitment remains steadfast towards pursuing justice through factual integrity and respectful civic engagement.”

He concluded by expressing faith in the state government’s ability to examine the matter impartially and ensure that all academic appointments are made in accordance with legal and merit-based procedures.
