Chhattisgarh Assembly Deputy Speaker Manoj Singh Mandavi passes away

Guwahati: Chhattisgarh Assembly Deputy Speaker and ruling Congress MLA Manoj Singh Mandavi breathed his last at the age of 58 following a heart attack on Sunday.

Party leaders said Manoj Mandavi was rushed to a hospital in nearby Dhamtari town after having a heart attack, where he passed on the following morning, CPCC spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla said.

Manoj Mandavi, a former Kanker district representative for the Bhanupratappur constituency, was in his home village of Nathia Nawagaon in the Charama area of the district on Saturday night.

He was transferred to a hospital in Charama after expressing discomfort where physicians treated him, Shukla said.

Manoj Mandavi was subsequently shifted to a hospital in the nearby town of Dhamtari, where he later passed away, the Congress leader said.

The three-time MLA and a prominent tribal face of the party in the Bastar area, held the position of minister of state for the home and prisons from 2000 to 2003 under the Ajit Jogi-led Congress government in the state.
