Chief Election Commissioner Presents Official List of Newly-Elected MPs to President Droupadi Murmu

National Desk, 6th June: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, is set to meet President Droupadi Murmu on June 6. They will present the official list of newly-elected Members of Parliament (MPs), marking the initiation of the formation process for the 18th Lok Sabha.

In anticipation of this transition, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convened a crucial meeting on June 5 at the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi. During this gathering, NDA leaders unanimously re-elected Narendra Modi as their leader. They lauded Modi’s decade-long leadership and celebrated the nation’s progress under his governance.

The dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha took place on Wednesday, following the Union Cabinet’s recommendation. Acting on the advice, President Murmu exercised her powers under Sub-Clause (2) of Article 85 of the Constitution to dissolve the Lok Sabha. Concurrently, Prime Minister Modi and his Council of Ministers tendered their resignations, which were accepted by the President. They have been requested to continue in a caretaker capacity until the new government is formed.

The recently announced results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, declared on June 4, revealed noteworthy shifts in the political landscape. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 240 seats, marking a decline from its 2019 tally of 303. This marks the first time since 2014 that the BJP has not attained a majority on its own. On the other hand, the Congress Party made significant gains with 99 seats. The opposition alliance, INDIA, exceeded expectations by surpassing the 230-seat mark, presenting a formidable challenge.
