Chief Minister Pema Khandu Celebrates His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 89th Birthday in Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu recently participated in the celebration of the 89th birthday of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama at Rin Chen Tsang Yang Gyatso Urge Ling Monastery, the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama.

In an official message, Chief Minister Khandu expressed his deep honor at attending the event alongside dignitaries including DoKAA Chairperson Shri Jambey Wangdi, MLA Shri Namgey Tsering, and the Abbot of Tawang Monastery, His Eminence Shedling Tulku Thupten Tendar Rinpoche, among others. The celebration featured a vibrant cultural program and a Den-Tsik Monlam prayer ceremony led by monks from Tawang Monastery.

The festivities included a ceremonial cake-cutting in tribute to His Holiness. Chief Minister Khandu emphasized the joy of commemorating this auspicious occasion and reiterated his hope that the Dalai Lama’s teachings of compassion and peace will continue to inspire people worldwide.

Earlier, Chief Minister Khandu had marked the Dalai Lama’s birthday with a heartfelt tribute at Urgelling, the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama. He led a tree planting ceremony as a symbolic gesture of commitment to His Holiness’s enduring message of peace, compassion, and environmental stewardship.

Chief Minister Khandu had previously designated the Dalai Lama’s birthday as the Universal Day of Compassion, celebrated annually on July 6th. This initiative aims to honor His Holiness’s visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to humanity, encouraging everyone to embrace compassion, empathy, and kindness for a more harmonious world.
