China reports Monkey B Virus
Guwahati: After the outburst of COVID-19, China has reported the first MONKEY B VIRUS.
It was detected after the dissection of two dead monkeys was done by a 53 years old veterinarian doctor who later was infected by the same virus. It came to light after the vet passed away.
Monkey virus was first reported in 1932, this virus is commonly known as Herpes virus B, Herpes B, or B virus. It is basically found in macaque monkeys and this virus is found in their saliva, urine, or in the tissues of their spinal cord.
It is a very rare viral infection according to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and it is reported that 21 people lost their life due to this virus and 50 people have infected in 2020.
Regarding the transmission of the disease only one case so far has been recorded. This virus can infect a person if one person comes into contact with the infected monkey’s tissue, monkey bites, or scratches.
If people do not come into contact with monkeys the person has a very low chance of getting infected. However, veterinarians and veterinary lab workers have a higher chance of getting infected.
The symptoms of this virus are Fever and Chills, Muscle pain, Fatigue, Headache, Stomachache, Nausea. There is no approved medication for this virus.
