China Reports New ‘Langya’ Virus, 35 Infected

Guwahati: China has reported a new animal-derived virus while the entire globe is still working to combat COVID-19 and attempting to find solutions to stop monkeypox.

The name of the virus is Henipavirus or Langya henipavirus (LayV).

The unique Langya virus has reportedly infected 35 people in the nation so far, according to reports in the local media.

The virus was first discovered in the northeastern provinces of Shandong and Henan in 2018 and it was formally discovered in the nation last week.

It was discovered in throat swab samples taken from sick patients in eastern China, according to reports.

Fever is the most prevalent symptom of the virus in patients, according to study conducted by the Beijing Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology in 2019. Cough, exhaustion, appetite loss, muscle aches, and a propensity to vomit come after it.

The virus is a member of the dangerous Nipah virus family, which is spread by bats. Similar to Covid-19, it spreads through respiratory droplets.

The virus is much more hazardous because it kills up to 75% of people.

However, no death has been reported so far.
