Chinese Troops Reportedly Advance 60 Kilometres into Indian Territory in Arunachal Pradesh

Northeast Desk, 7th September: Chinese troops have reportedly advanced 60 kilometres into Indian territory in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, according to recent reports. The incursion occurred approximately a week ago, with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) establishing a camp in the Kapapu area.

This development comes amid ongoing concerns regarding two Arunachal Pradesh residents who have been missing for nearly two years and are believed to be in PLA custody. Dishanso Chikro, the brother of one of the missing men, claimed that they were apprehended by the Chinese army. The Indian Army has raised the issue with their Chinese counterparts, but there has been no response so far.

Anjaw MLA and Minister for Women and Child Development, Dasanglu Pul, confirmed the disappearance of the men but declined to comment on the recent incursion.

Local porters, deployed by the Indian Army, reported the incursion to villagers. The nearest ITBP camp is located at Hadigra Pass on the McMahon Line, about 90 km from the McMahon Line. Previous incursions have occurred in the area, including a 2022 event where PLA soldiers were observed overseeing infrastructure development near Hadigra Lake.

Arunachal Pradesh shares a 1,126-kilometre border with China, part of the broader 3,488 km Sino-India border. The latest incursion has heightened local fears about losing their land and increased tensions along the border.
