Choppers deployed as relief efforts intensify in North Sikkim

Pakyong, Sikkim: In a significant boost to ongoing disaster relief operations in North Sikkim, two V-5 helicopters touched down at Pakyong Greenfield Airport today, carrying National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams. This critical deployment aims to bolster rescue and relief efforts in the Himalayan state, severely impacted by recent natural calamities.

The initial sortie saw 23 NDRF personnel, along with vital supplies, airlifted from Pakyong to Chaten, a region bearing the brunt of the recent devastation. The specialised teams are equipped with satellite phones and crucial emergency gear, enabling immediate on-ground operations in the affected areas.

This deployment is part of a concerted strategy to enhance relief measures in remote locations, many of which have become largely inaccessible due to the widespread damage. The NDRF units will primarily focus on evacuation missions, search and rescue operations, and establishing temporary communication links to aid stranded residents and those affected by the disaster.

Furthermore, authorities have directed teams to scout for alternative foot-access routes and assess the viability of constructing temporary helipads, contingent on weather conditions. The utmost priority remains reaching isolated communities and delivering timely assistance to those in need.

Relief operations continue unabated, with both state and central agencies working in close coordination to ensure a rapid and effective response to the evolving situation in North Sikkim.
